IFM-SEI promotes Human Rights Education
11.10.2007: IFM-SEI, in co-operation with the Council of Europe All Different All Equal Campaign, is hosting a seminar on Human Rights Education for and with Young people. The seminar will bring together 27 young people from all corners of Europe to develop competencies in Human Rights education to use at home in their organsations.
The event will take place in the context of the 2007 European Year of Equal Opportunities for All, and will be held at the Kurt Löwenstein Haus in Wefthpfuhl - Germany.
The main objective of the seminar, which will gather some 25 youngsters, is to share experiences through innovating workshops based on the principles of non-formal education where different life situations which are threatening Human Rights will be tackled. Human and children’s’ rights affect every aspect of our lives. Violations of human rights lie at the root of almost every problem in the world of today: violence, exploitation, poverty, globalisation, our environment and economic inequality. Based on the European Youth Campaign for diversity, human rights and participation we want to empower our young people to develop strategies and activities to face sexism, to promote human rights education in their daily work and lives, to enable them to take up challenges and to strengthen their lobbying skills for poverty eradication.
For multipliers working with young people the central issue of the Campaign "All Different - All Equal” is how to relate the topics of diversity, human rights and participation to our work. Democracy and diversity must be learned and practised, participation starting in the earliest childhood and correlating to the development of the child and youngsters is the best way to have dedicated democrats. IFM-SEI is convinced that it is only through merging our differences and encouraging the uniqueness of every person that we can create a tolerant world.
