Our values

Children’s Rights

IFM-SEI is a children and youth-led movement fighting for children's rights globally. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is a key document for IFM-SEI and our member organisations. We work with children and young people to educate them about their rights and to empower them to take action to ensure their rights and those of others are respected.

Education

Education As an educational organisation, IFM-SEI's central strategy for the promotion of children's rights is through our educational programmes. We work with children all over the world through peer education, empowering them to contribute to building a better world.

Advocacy

In addition to our educational programmes, IFM-SEI advocates for the rights of the child. IFM-SEI is a member of the Steering Group of the European Forum on the Rights of the Child, working with European stakeholders to promote children’s rights in EU Action inside the union and globally. At national level, our member organisations work with their national governments and NGO groups to contribute to the promotion of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and ensure children have an input to drafting the shadow reports.

Direct work with vulnerable children

IFM works with vulnerable children offering them a space where their voices can be heard and supporting them with their basic needs. Where we offer direct services for children, we combine this with strong lobbying, ensuring national governments know that education and health are the responsibility of governments not NGOs.

Equality and Inclusion

Rainbow at CoCamp IFM-SEI and its member organisations are fighting for a world where everyone has the same opportunities to participate in society, and for a world where no one is discriminated against because of their gender, sexual orientation, their origin, belief, economic situation or any other reason. We aim to achieve this in two ways: Through education we raise awareness on the mechanisms of exclusion and discrimination and empower children and young people to stand up against inequalities. We also develop concrete strategies to better include children who face discrimination on a daily basis in our own organisations and train our members in inclusion work.

Peace

2006 IFM-SEI has a long history of peace education and conflict resolution with children and young people. We believe that peace is much more than the absence of war and we are committed to working with children and young people for a more peaceful future. We aim to educate children and young people about the causes of conflict in general as well as specific conflicts in the past and today. We also work with our members to look at alternative approaches to conflicts and challenge the generally accepted view that war is the answer.

IFM-SEI in the Middle East Region has been working to develop a peace project between Israeli and Palestinian young people for many years and our member organisations in the region are closely cooperating with each other.

Sustainable development

IFM-SEI is committed to the development of a more sustainable world where everyone's needs are met. To this end, we undertake an extensive educational programme to ensure our members are well educated on this matter and empowered to make a change in their own lives as well as influencing decision-makers and other young people
